Power Adapter: The electrical outlets in Kenya are 240V. You will need an international adapter if you are bringing electrical equipment that needs to be charged. (Cell phone, laptop, etc)
Toiletries: Carry toilet paper with you at all times. Most establishments will charge to use toilet paper.
Avoid Plastic Bags: Kenya currently has banned the use of plastic bags. Please pack your items that need to be bagged in brown paper/recyclable bags.
Kenya is located on the equator hence warm temperatures are to be expected. You can expect highs of 88°F and lows 68°F in the month of November. At times there can be some rains especially in the afternoons.
Kiswahili is the national language but English is still the language of commerce. However Kenya is a nation of 44 tribes and you will expect local dialects to be spoken. While in the Kendu area the local dialect is Dholuo. In the Maasai Mara, the local dialect is Maasai. However you can expect a number of people will converse in English.
The Kenyan Shilling is the local currency. The exchange rate at the beginning of 2024 is $1 to Kshs. 150. For comparison, a loaf of bread os about Kshs. 60 and a gallon of milk is about Kshs. 409.
